In a new research scientists found that too much salt diet could raise your risk for atrial fibrillation. Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular heart beat which increases the risk of stroke and heart diseases. In rare cases, it can lead to heart failure.
According to the survey in their study scientists included 716 middle aged men and women in Finland and among that 74 of the participants were diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.
According to the study those who with the highest levels of salt in their diet had a higher rate of atrial fibrillation than those with the lowest levels of salt in their diet. Researchers found that salt consumption was independently associated with the risk of atrial fibrillation.
From the University of Oulu in Finland, author Tero Paakko said, “This study provides the first evidence that dietary salt may increase the risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation, adding to a growing list of dangers from excessive salt consumption on our cardiovascular health”.
According to the survey the chances of developing atrial fibrillation increase with age, the condition affects in people who have age 65 and above.
