The electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most basic diagnostic studies performed in emergency and critical care units. Unfortunately, many students and healthcare professionals find ECG interpretation a difficult skill to learn, mainly because they cannot relate theory to practice. Because learning how to interpret ECGs can be difficult, the tools that help to have a baseline understanding of ECG are essential.
“ECG Quiz” is a medical educational app with a collection of more than 200 clinical cases containing electrocardiograms and short clinical histories. This app was developed by Antoine Ayer, MD from Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark.
The main screen is composed of two buttons “Quiz” and “Guidelines”. In “Guidelines” the instructions for daily practice is presented. Frequent ECG diagnoses and triage advice regarding referral to acute PCI and pacemaker implantation are given.
Training module with over 200 ECGs and their associated clinical histories, distributed in various quizzes and practical tests. There are several Quiz modes such as the “Mini test” with 4 strips in a row. Additional quizzes include an “ECG of the month”, a “Blind test”, “5 random questions” and 4 “Triage” questions.
This application is dedicated to all health care professionals, especially those who are involved in patient triage. Adequate ECG diagnosis allows rapid patient referral to acute PCI, pacemaker implantation or cardiac surgery, when indicated. However, there is a disclaimer about how it does not replace medical advice for non-professionals. “This is always a plus as not all apps do this” – had state in his review Guido Giunti.
