Cerner Corporation is a supplier of healthcare information technology solutions, services, devices and hardware. Its solutions optimize processes and help eliminate errors, variance and waste for health care organizations ranging from single-doctor practices to entire countries, for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and for the field of health care as a whole. The company was founded by Neal L. Patterson, Clifford W. Illig and Paul N. Gorup in 1979 and is headquartered in North Kansas City, MO.
Recently Cerner Corporation has acquired Siemens’ health technology division for $1.3 billion cash. “We believe this is an all-win situation for the clients of both organizations and all of our associates and shareholders,” said Neal Patterson.
Part of the acquisition agreement is the formation of a strategic alliance between the companies to use their respective strengths, Cerner’s health IT expertise and Siemens’ medical device and advanced imaging capabilities, to develop new products and solutions.
According to released by the Kansas City-based company statement, the combined Cerner and Siemens Company will have $4.5 billion in annual revenue and have 20,000 associates in more than 30 countries, and 18,000 client facilities. An annual investment of $650 million will be put toward research and development.
